Our Culture

The office works in quiet focus during the day, broken up by regular team and client catchups and workshops. Lunchtimes and day-end generally see the pool table and the Nintendo Switch put to good use. Friday from 5pm beers and snacks start to open, and we run through a 15-20 minute recap on the week’s progress across projects, after which people can hang out, go home, or carry on working (which is generally discouraged!). We’ve recently started organising quarterly team socials - laser tag, bowling, etc.

An Entrepreneurial Environment

Digital Butter was founded in 2009 and started out as ‘two guys building websites for clients’. Ten years later it has remained pretty much the same, but has expanded to include 10 employees who service different types of clients in varied ways. We classify ourselves as a startup in the way we think, the way we work and the methodologies we use.Often, we work with clients who have new or unique business models and support them with transforming the way business is done. This can include disrupting a specific industry through implementing automation and transformation. After initially developing websites for SME businesses, our reputation and portfolio grew to include large enterprise clients such as Jardine Matheson, and theSecurities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.

Our team likes to be challenged, from both a technical and design perspective - to do work that is really cutting edge and will help to grow businesses quickly. Most of our business comes from small to medium enterprises and all contain a ‘start-up state of mind’ for growth. Many clients, like local SME’s, funded Hong Kong start-ups, e-commerce businesses and large corporates are attracted to the way we operate in this respect. Clients view us as fast, agile and able to advise them on any growth strategies they may be considering. Unlike many of Hong Kong’s businesses, Digital Butter rarely, if ever, requires staff to work overtime. We allow employees to freely choose their working hours as either 9am-6pm or 10am-7pm. We also provide flexibility to those who have outside commitments and look at what’s needed on an individual employee basis.The physical environment of Digital Butter is ‘fun, bright and social’ with social activities and games for our team members occurring regularly.
